PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

We would have experienced very many people walking in and out of our lives; but have we stopped to think, how many of them have left footprints in our hearts?

It is perceived that those in the 20s &30s are youths, 40s are the old age of youths and 50s are the youths of old age. We have to psyche ourselves in order to belong to the right age band to adapt to the situation and circumstances.

The longer I live, the more keenly I feel that whatever was good enough for our fathers and forefathers is not good enough for us. Some of us term this as PROGRESS.

The foundations have been laid; but without further labour and commitment from all parties, the ‘superstructures’ cannot be raised.

I have always had this silent prayer at heart when presiding our meetings:

“Please God. Give me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can
And the wisdom to know the differences.”

We shall progress as ROTARY SHARES.

EDITORIAL
by Rtn Eric Wong
Rotary’s Lighthouse Project was given a tremendous boost when it was first launched in the State of Perak, more precisely Teluk Intan. About 50 participants from at least 40 schools attended the one-and-half-day workshop from 22nd to 23rd September 2007. It was a great exposure for the teachers as the trainers Girija and Eric took them through the Concentrated Language Encounter from practice to theory. The participants were a little skeptical but became more receptive when the trainers explained why certain processes were carried out. The initial feedback from the evaluation was indeed encouraging. But most of the participants requested that Sunday was a day not conducive for a workshop.

The host Club, the RC of Teluk Intan did a fantastic job together with the Perak Education Dept. It was very well organized. President Jaya Letchumi and PE Pushpa were very hospitable. President Balram, PP Yap Swee Fatt, Girija and Eric were well looked after. The seafood, chee cheong fun and Teluk Intan biscuits were superb. The seafood was awesome. What an experience to eat in a coffee shop cum restaurant at the estuary of the Perak River! Thank you Rotarians of Teluk Intan.

This course in Teluk Intan marked the third CLE course and it signalled that the RCPJ is going nationwide to train our English teachers. The first was in Petaling Jaya and the second at Jeli, Kelantan. The third will be scheduled in Ipoh from 17th to 18th November 2007.

DON'T MESS WITH KIDS!!

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales.
The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small.
The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.
Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible.
The little girl said, "When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah".
The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to hell?"
The little girl replied, "Then you ask him ".

A Kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they were drawing. She would occasionally walk around to see each child's work.
As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was.
The girl replied, "I'm drawing God."
The teacher paused and said, "But no one knows what God looks like."
Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, "They will in a minute."

One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother had several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head.
She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, "Why are some of your hairs white, Mom?"
Her mother replied, "Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white."
The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said, "Momma, how come ALL of grandma's hairs are white?"
