PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Meetings are an integral and necessary part of any organization. The announcements, inputs and interactive discourses that take place during meetings enable the organization to function efficiently & effectively.

Yes. Several of us do play the role of listening, observing and being silent. But the very fact that we are physically present for the meeting and being in the midst of our fellow members, is our active and productive contribution to the organization.

However, to be well-informed and best optimize from these sessions, we must make every effort to be prompt for these meetings.

This brings to mind the story of a parish priest being honoured at a dinner on the 25th Anniversary of his arrival at that parish.

A leading politician was chosen to give a little speech at that dinner, but he was delayed in a traffic jam. So the priest decided to say his own few words while they waited.

“You will understand,” he said, “the seal of the confessional can never be broken. However, I got my first impressions of the parish from the first confession I heard here. When I came here 25 years ago, I thought I had been assigned to a terrible place. The very first chap who entered my confessional told me how he had stolen a television set and when stopped by the police, had almost murdered the officer. Further, he told me he had embezzled money from his place of business and had an affair with his boss’s wife. I was appalled. But as the days went on, I knew my people were not like that and I had indeed come to a fine parish full of understanding and loving people.”

Just as the priest finished his talk, the politician arrived full of apologies for being late. He immediately began to give his talk.

“I’ll never forget the first day your parish priest arrived in this parish,” said the politician. “In fact, I had the honour of being the first one to go to him in confession.”

EDITORIAL
by Eric Wong
Malaysia, particularly in the bigger cities and towns, are now longer safe for our children. The recent crimes committed on our children are despicable and should be condemned. Children are innocent young ones and very naïve and we should not take advantage of them. It’s sad to say that these perpetrators are perverts and sadists. The government, the police and the community must do something about this and fast.

Gone are the days when children could play all by themselves. Today, children are chauffeured from home to school. We can’t blame the parents for this over-protection. Children are also armed with handphones. What has happened to the sweetness of growing up when young children explore and learn without the presence of weirdos?

This is an urgent matter that needs a national effort to get rid of this menace. Parents must be comfortable and at ease when they are not with their children. Most parents have to work these days and let them work with peace and with no anxiety.

Poultry keeping – How we love the English Language

The Priest

The priest in a small Irish village loved his chickens that he kept in the coop behind the church.

One Sunday morning before mass, he went to feed the birds and discovered that the cock was missing.

He knew about the cock fights in the village, so he decided to question his parishioners in church.

During mass, he asked his congregation, "Has anybody got a cock?"

All the men stood up.

"No, no, that wasn't what I meant.

Has anybody seen a cock?"

All the women stood up.

"No, no, that wasn't what I meant either.

Has anybody seen a cock that doesn't belong to them?"

Half the women stood up!

"No, no, no, that wasn't what I meant. What I really really mean is, has anybody seen MY cock?"

Sixteen altar boys, two priests and a goat stood up.
