PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
|
|
The Hari Raya Cheer at SRJK Sg. Way last Saturday was a reminder to us that so many children today need our care and love. We have to reach out to them to provide the comfort that Rotary is playing its role in making a difference to their lives. This is the meaning of cheer in our RCPJ and we started this community service many years ago. There will be 3 more cheer programmes – the Deepavali on the 18th, the Christmas and the Chinese New Year. In these cheer programmes, children will have fun and food and of course, ‘duit raya’ or ‘ang pow’. As usual, we have the strong support from the ladies of the Inner Wheel. Thank you, President Jayanthi. I wish to thank Rtn Pancha for organizing the Hari Raya Cheer and the Community Service Director, PP Ong See Seng for his assistance. PE Eric, PP Chris Ng and IPP Balram were present to lend support. The ladies from the Inner Wheel comprising Girija, Padmini, Monica and Divya were also present to render useful assistance.
This afternoon’s luncheon meeting was a business meeting that saw PE Eric Wong presenting the CLP – Club Leadership Plan for adoption. The proposed structure of the CLP will consist of the Board and 6 Standing Committees: Club Administration, Club Service Relations, Membership, Service Projects, the Rotary Foundation and the New Generations. The Board has a composition of the President, the Secretary, the Treasurer, the 6 Directors of the Standing Committees, the PE, the VP and the IPP making a total of 12 members. The new structure will see stronger emphases on Public Relations, The Rotary Foundation and Membership. The Vocational Service Avenue in the old structure will be blended into the Service Projects. The New Generations will remain status quo.
There needs to be at least another meeting to fine tune the CLP proposal and also to look into the Bye-laws. I am happy that our members are receptive to this proposal that will take us to a different dimension of Rotary.
PE Eric Wong, on behalf of the Organizing Committee for the Fund-raising Project, explained to members the Marketing Kit that has been finalized. He first of all explained the concept of the design that reflects our duty towards children in making a difference to their lives. The funds raised will be for 3 years and the commitment for the 19 projects will amount to RM500,000. The 3 documents will explain most of the fund-raising project. This is the first time that our Club has embarked on a very ambitious project. This is not a Club Service Project BUT a project of our Club. Let us put our shoulders together to make dreams real for our children. I call upon you Rotarians to market this project with urgency. Thank you.

EDITORIAL
by Eric Wong |
The pace has picked. More work is before us. Fund-raising, getting sponsors and donations, marketing our project, getting more members, DG’s visit, cheer programmes, CLE, matching grants, etc., etc. In the midst of all these, let us pray for two things: co-operate and help each other and do our work with some joy in order to remove stress.
It’s difficult to remain calm and collected when you’ve so many things to look into. But we need to try. An unnecessary outburst can result in the strain of a long friendship. We made a choice to serve society and we would carry this out without offending anyone, least of all our Rotarians who are really our friends. Perhaps we need to space out our time by some time management. The more important things should be done first. This would remove stress. When we recognize that stress is coming, we need to relax. Go for a walk. We can’t push ourselves much more.
I always believe that the problems in this world are all from people. There are people who don’t behave appropriately in public. There are people who can’t see things eye-to-eye and share the same vision. They want things done in their way. There are people who are just plain irritants. But on the other side, I’ve also a firm belief that there are people who are genuinely willing to help us. We can see many of them in our Club. They offer their services by asking, “Do you need any help?” This really makes us feel good and we say to ourselves, “At least there’s one good soul out there.”
If we could remind ourselves that we’re in Rotary to help people, this would indeed put us in sharp focus by not losing our head. Do things with love, please.

| SPEAKER
OF THE WEEK |
| There was no speaker this week. PE Eric Wong presented the CLP in a business meeting. RI has initiated the CLP in a move to direct Rotary Clubs to be more Rotary centred instead of being inward in looking at a club from its own perspectives. We need to enlarge our thinking about Rotary in order to market it to our community.
The main features of the proposal focus on the Standing Committees. In the old structure, we called them Service Avenues. RI emphasizes on Club Administration, Membership, Club Relations and the Rotary Foundation. Bearing in mind these proposals from RI, the recommendations from the RCPJ after a business meeting and a Task Force Meeting consist of a structure that comprises the Board and 6 Standing Committees: Club Administration, Club Public Relations, Membership, the Service Projects, Rotary Foundation and the New Generations. The Board will consist of the President, the Secretary, the Treasurer, the 6 Directors of the Standing Committee, the PE, the VP and the IPP, making a total of 12 members. The Chairmen are defined as the Rotarians who ‘run the show’ in their specific projects. For example, the Chairman for the Golden Child Project. It was proposed that The New Generations remain status quo because the projects are identified with youths, not so much with the community.
The following are specific recommendations from the Task Force and also from the Business Meeting:
- Choice to be given to members to be in various Standing Committees. A form will be issued.
- All Rotarians must serve in an at least ONE SERVICE PROJECT or NEW GENERATIONS AND in ANOTHER COMMITTEE.
- There will be a Chairman for New Projects.
- All service projects will be reviewed from year to year.
- New projects will be introduced every year.
- It was proposed that 2 Rotarian Advisers be assigned to every Interact Club. A Pooling System will also be introduced where Rotarians could offer their services on specific days of the week to attend Interact meetings.
It was generally felt that there should be another business meeting to fine tune the CLP proposals and relate them to the Bye-laws.

The Sheriff in a small town walks out in the street and sees a blonde cowboy
coming down the walk with nothing on but his cowboy hat, gun and his boots,
so he arrests him for indecent exposure.
As he is locking him up, he asks why in the world are you dressed like this?
The Cowboy says, Well it's like this Sheriff... I was in the bar down the
road and this pretty little red head asks me to go out to her motor home
with her... so I did.
We go inside and she pulls off her top and asks me to pull off my shirt...so
I did.
Then she pulls off her skirt and asks me to pull off my pants...
so I did.
Then she pulls off her panties and asks me to pull off my shorts... so I
did.
Then she gets on the bed and looks at me kind of sexy and says, now go to
town cowboy...
And here I am.
