PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The Joint District Conference for Districts 3300 and 3310 was successfully completed on 28th October 2007 at Sheraton Subang Hotel & Towers, Subang Jaya, Selangor.

The Host Club was the Rotary Club of Bangsar and the Partner Club was the Rotary Club of Kota Melaka.

It has been sometime since we had a Conference together with our Fellow Rotarians from District 3310 comprising of Melaka, Johore, Sabah, Sarawak, Singapore and Brunei.

Kudos to District Governor District 3300 Dr. Joseph Rajendran and District Governor District 3310 Chris Chen for agreeing to have this Joint District Conference.

It was a pleasant experience to make new and renew old acquaintances with our Fellow Rotarians from ‘South and East of our Borders’.

Probably, we should think of inviting our Friends from ‘North of our Border’ in the future.

After all, aren’t we ONE GLOBAL FAMILY?

The RI President’s Representative was Donald W. Cox who is the Managing Partner of Cox Partners Accountants in Essendon, Victoria, Australia. Don and his Ann Joan live in Essendon, Victoria and they have four children and six grandchildren. A Rotarian since 1976, Don served as President of the Rotary Club of Broadmeadows in1992-93 and in 2000-2001 led Rotary International District 9790 as District Governor.

The Guest of Honour was YB Datuk Ong Tee Keat, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia who delivered the keynote address entitled “International Rotary Programme and World Peace” and consequently declared the Joint Conference open.

To be continued in next week's bulletin

EDITORIAL
by Eric Wong
Sexual crimes against children. How heinous society has become! Children are born to be loved and cared, not to be abused and killed.

Perhaps NGOs can do something about this. We could create awareness among children to be more careful. Interactors from the various Interact Clubs could assist by passing on messages to children. The good old dictum is still valid, “ Don’t talk to strangers”.

An exhibition for child awareness is necessary. The clubs could think of the “don’ts”.

  1. Never smile at strangers
  2. Never take sweets or lollies from strangers
  3. Never walk alone
  4. Never play at playgrounds without the presence of parents

Parents sometimes display laissez-faire attitude. Children need protection. They cannot be left alone at any time. Cities have become unsafe for many of us. Think of some way so that they can be looked after even though they have to be left alone for only a couple of hours. And finally, prayer is necessary for family welfare every day.
