PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The 3R system in primary education reflects the significance of language where the components of ‘reading’ and ‘writing’ and ‘arithmetic’ are entrenched.

The CLE prepares children with life-long acquired skills.

And in that sense, the successful implementation of this project denotes what a fine investment for tomorrow carried out by Rotarians and their Partners in Service who care for the future.

.......continue from previous week's bulletin...

Goodness is the only investment that never fails to return a dividend.

To quote our RI President, Wilfrid Wilkinson:

“Let us have the magic that allows ordinary people like you and me do absolutely amazing things.”

Youth investment is good investment and when properly administered, results and rich dividends are guaranteed.

Our whole ethos is to develop CONFIDENCE which leads to AMBITION which brings CAPACITY FOR HARDWORK.

There is no shortcut to success.

This year’s RI Theme is ROTARY SHARES.

Let us share our TIME and EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE and WISDOM, and together, we shall strike the correct note in our aspirations towards SERVICE ABOVE SELF.

Season's Greetings for X'mas and New Year!

EDITORIAL
by Eric Wong

I was indeed honoured when the old boys of MBSS KL invited me to celebrate the school’s 110th Anniversary Celebration. More than 1,400 old boys and teachers turned up for this memorable event. It was so good to see my former students doing so well in life. They have become successful business people and professionals. Of course, there are others less successful but it didn’t matter. The evening was a time to cherish. I was told that at least 10 of them have already been honoured with Datukship.

What is more significant and pleasing is that they remember. They still remember what they had learned. They appreciate the times in school – the mischief but also the honour they had brought to the school. The students then were different. They played hard and worked hard as well. The teachers gave their best and that was the main reason why we were remembered. I wish the teaching profession could go back to those times.

CONTRIBUTIONS
A Christian Bear

An atheist was taking a walk through the woods, admiring all that the "accident of evolution" had created. "What majestic trees! What a powerful river! What beautiful animals!" he said to himself.

As he walked alongside the river he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. He turned to look and saw a 7-foot grizzly charging towards him. He ran as fast as he could up the path. He looked over his shoulder and saw that the bear was closing in on him. He ran even faster, so scared that tears were coming to his eyes. He looked over his shoulder again and the bear was even closer. His heart was pumping frantically and he tried to run faster still. He tripped and fell to the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up, but saw the bear... right on top of him... reaching for him with the left paw and raising his right paw to strike him.

At that instant the atheist cried out "Oh my God!...."

Suddenly, time stopped. The bear froze in motion. The forest was ever so silent. Even the river ceased to move. As a brilliant ray of light emerged from the sky and shone upon the man, a powerful voice spoke to him, "You have denied my existence for all of these years; you teach others that I do not exist and you credit creation to a cosmic accident. Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament? Am I to count you now as a believer?"

The atheist blinked directly into the light. "It would be hypocritical of me to convert to a Christian after all these years, but could you instead make the bear a Christian?"

"Very well," said the voice from above. The bright light disappeared. All of a sudden, life resumed around the man. The river ran again. The forest became alive once more with the gentle sounds of nature.

The bear stirred. Slowly, he lowered his right paw, brought both paws together, bowed his head and graciously spoke: "Lord, for this food which I am about to receive, I am truly thankful."
