PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The fund-raising meeting held yesterday evening revealed that matters about the charity dinner show are moving as planned. The song ‘Make a Difference’ has been recorded after a few sessions of practices. Rotarians can sing! The sales of the dinner tickets, though not quite expected to sell like hot cakes, are slowly reaching 70. But the higher-priced tables remain unsold. The strategy now is to target at the RM3,000 tables. It may not be possible to sell table by table at this stage. Individual sales are encouraged. We could sell ticket by ticket and then put the guests together at tables. If we could hit 80 tables, we’ll be more comfortable. Please help to sell in this last leg of the charity dinner show and fund-raising.

I would like to say this again. This is a club event. It is not confined to a core group of people. What you’re doing is really doing something for the club. I hope you could bear this mind.

I can promise you that it’ll be an evening of fun. HRH of Selangor has confirmed that he will not be in attendance. Our DG and perhaps the President of MPPJ will be the VIPs. Without the dignitaries, it would make the atmosphere less formal and guests could mingle more freely.

The next two weeks will be crucial in tidying up things before the grand finale.

PENNY AND I WISH ALL MEMBERS A HAPPY 2009. AND TO THOSE CHRISTIAN MEMBERS, A MERRY X’MAS

EDITORIAL
by Eric Wong
The year has almost come to an end. Let us hope and work towards a better year. Before 2008 is out, let us pray for forgiveness. We’re not perfect. We’ve our sins and weaknesses. To claim that we’re perfect is a reflection of our behaviour in arrogance. When I was much younger, I always thought that my mental strength was something that really mattered. My decisions centred on mental ability. This was indeed arrogance. But as the years went by, I experienced this unseen guidance. I could not have done the right thing in life if not for this guiding hand.

Let us wish for a more successful 2009. The world economy has affected many people. Let us hope that the economic doldrums will not stay for long. It could be devastating for business. Rotarians need to reach out in many ways. We need to think of ways in providing temporary relief for those who are badly affected. Let 2009 be the year of caring and showing kindness to people.

I wish you a Merry X’mas and a Happy New Year.

THE WEEK WE SHARED
Our club member YB Donald Lim gave a very interesting account on the latest development at the political front and how, in his opinion the soon to be 60 year-old MCA must change in order to be relevant to an electorate which is younger, better informed and more discerning.

The almost full house audience asked many questions and the fact that the meeting overshot its stipulated time by 20 minutes clearly shows how the speaker’s wit and charisma have kept the Rotarians all enthralled.
