PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
|
|
The joint luncheon meeting between the RC Shah Alam and the RCPJ on 29th December signalled an effort to get to know the Rotarians from the other Rotary clubs. Indeed, it was an excellent fellowship with at least 15 Rotarians from the RC Shah Alam present. Our club had an encouraging attendance of 27 members translated to 67.5%. President Jani Wahab, in a warm gesture, invited our club for another joint meeting scheduled on Friday, 22nd January at Kelab Alam Shah. It will be an evening meeting and an interesting talk about the experiences on the longest train ride will be scheduled. We will reciprocate. I must thank VP Jack Lim for initiating this joint meeting and the arrangement of the sumptuous lunch.
The luncheon meeting also saw the induction of Rtn Tan Kok Tee, the 46th member of the RCPJ. Our membership is slowly but surely growing. There may be two more in the pipeline.
The 6th of January is an important date. It is our 49th Anniversary Banquet. It falls on a Wednesday evening. The planning and arrangement have been completed, thanks to the efficiency of PP Albert Yong and the committee members who have met more than eight times. We are going to have a great evening of fellowship – recognizing our Rotarians and friends. Please turn up in full force. It is your club’s anniversary.
The Water & Sanitation Project is now back on track. It looks like we will not have the tall structure to store the water in a tank. The revised plan is to have a tank at the ground level and it can hold 3,000 gallons. From this tank, the water will be piped to the 12 homes.
We are now commissioning the contractor to ensure that every thing will work. At the same time, we are also writing to the Orang Asli Dept. to inform them of this project. When the water supply is connected, we will move into sanitation by building shower facilities and toilets. Education will also come in.
The Redeeming Human Dignity Project is moving as expected. The cooking utensils such as the stove, kuali, ladle and crockery have been purchased on the recommendation of Chef Wong. The stalls will be located in Klang and Shah Alam. They will commence their business this new year. We will help them by informing the District so that Rotarians can patronize the stalls.
Six months have passed by. Only six more months to go. Time really flies. Our projects need to be started so that we can see the fruits of our effort. I plead with the Directors and Chairmen to work harder before the Rotary Year is over. Thank you.

EDITORIAL
by PDG Dato Dr Low Teong |
| Today I will give my third installment on the performance of the club over the last six months. I like to stress that the views presented in the three editorials are my opinions and in no way reflect those of the President Dr Eric Wong, the Board of Directors or the Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya. Thankfully many members have privately expressed their approval of the assessments.
With this issue we have completed six months or 25 issues of the PeeJay Pos. We have submitted all the 25 issues to the District Awards Committee on time. In this issue we publish the final Rotary Quote of the Day. This final quote is in memory of our late Tan Sri Dato James Peter Chin who was the Director of Rotary International from 1996-97, a dynamic Rotarian of our club that many of us will remember for a long, long time.
Starting from 12th January 2010 we will be having Rotary information on Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation at the start of each meeting. The information presented each week will be published in the PeeJay Pos.
Back to my assessment of the club. I had already covered the six committees in the last two editorials. Today we will touch on the major club events. These are the 49th and 50th Club Anniversary Celebrations and the Dama Charity Musical Show.
Much had already been written about the Dama Musical Charity Show, which was an outstanding success both as a fund raiser and a project of the club. Once the accounts are closed it will mark the end of the event. Once again thank you Woon Hud and Karen and the members of the Organising Committee.
The 49th Club Anniversary Celebration will be held next week. Under the able Chairmanship of PP Albert Yong it is set to be another successful club event. A crowd of about 200 Rotarians and guests will be in attendance. The guests include Governor Leslie and Ziela, DGE Kok Beng, DGN Dr Ravee and Indrabai, DGN2 Mansoor and Emzita and President Edward and another member of our sister club, the Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island West and their spouses. The event was deliberately kept low key in anticipation of the 50th Club Anniversary Celebration.
Many members have in private and at club meetings expressed concern at the progress in the organization of the event. Very, very few or maybe none of the current members are likely to witness the next big celebration, the Centennial or 100th Anniversary of the club. The 50th Anniversary is therefore very special to most if not all the current members.
Discussions on the 50th Anniversary Celebration first commenced in March 2008 during a visit to our sister club RC Chungli. PE Leong Yeng Kit who had just been elected Vice President making him the President during the 50th Anniversary Celebration was in the delegation. There was much excitement in Yeng Kit and the others as we talked about the event socially. Yeng Kit was then appointed the Organising Chairman by the then BOD. PP Goh Seng Chuan was then appointed Chairman of the Organising Committee in April 2009. Todate we had one meeting chaired by Yeng Kit and I think two meetings chaired by Seng Chuan, There were no minutes to these meetings. No one knows what is happening.
WE NEED TO ACT. THE EVENT IS JUST ONE YEAR AWAY!!!

| THE
WEEK WE SHARED |
| The meeting on 29th December 2009 was a Joint Meeting with the Rotary Club of Shah Alam, an event that was held for the first time in many years. President Jani Wahab and DGN2 Mansoor Saat led a very big delegation to the meeting.
Our scheduled speaker Ms Ng Yean Jye who was to speak on Organic Farming had to excuse herself at the last minute because of urgent family matters.
PDG Dato Dr Low Teong very kindly agreed to stand in at the last minutes and spoke on the topic “Election and Nomination of Governors”.
PDG Dato Dr Low explained the stages and process in the election of a governor from the suggestion by a Rotary Club to the election at the International Convention. He then explained the procedures for complaining to Rotary International on the election process. This topic was of interest to many Rotarians in view of the current complain against the District Nominating Committee.
Rotary quote of the day presented by PDG Dato Dr Low
Teong:
Through Rotary I found sheer pleasure and enjoyment in lifelong friendship, fellowship and service.
Through Rotary I found dedicated and service–minded Rotarians, and like good vines, they make good wines.
Through Rotary, I am everything.
Without Rotary, I am – just nothing
Past RI Director Tan Sri Dato James Peter Chin, 1996-97
