On Tuesday 19th February 2008, PDG Dr. N Ganesan was unanimously elected as an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Petaling
Jaya.
On Thursday 21st February 2008, at our monthly RCPJ Board Meeting, the non-compliance with Club Rules on Attendance at Club Meetings was hotly debated and the contentious issue was on how best to implement it.
The Board has mandated the Secretary to communicate to the Members who have not complied with the Attendance Rules and Payment of Subscriptions; and to invoke Club Rules accordingly as per the guidelines of the Rotary International’s Manual of Procedure.
As per our Agreement, we are required to have a minimum of 25 persons taking lunch/dinner at Sheraton Subang for our regular weekly meetings.
However, we average only about 15 members at these meetings.
Thus, our Club has to fork out to Sheraton Subang RM250.00 weekly just to meet this shortfall of attendance of members.
Don’t you think it is a terrible waste of funds!
Invariably, the same faces are seen at our regular weekly meetings which I must add should be the focus of the Club members.
But the sad truth is several of our members are looking for ‘make-ups’, and rightfully so too, in order to comply with RI’s Attendance Rules resulting in our regular weekly meetings’ attendance taking a toll.
Our Club Service Director mentions that he has experienced incidents where members who have confirmed their attendance for evening meetings, functions, etc. have not turned up, resulting as a Club expense as a consequence of such actions.
I think it is appropriate to tell ourselves: “Ask not what the Club can do for you BUT what you can do for the Club”.
It is every President’s wish and dream to hand over the reins of his Club on a better slate to his successor.
This augurs well for the progress and development of that organization.
And on this premise, we have decided to form task forces in three areas of concern endemic in our Club viz. Membership Development, Attendance and Fellowship.
And I am happy to announce, with the concurrence of the Board, that the following Senior and Experienced Rotarians have been appointed (and they have readily accepted) to head these task forces:
These Past Presidents have been tasked to make their Findings, propose their Recommendations and the Proactive Actions to be undertaken by the Club to move forward.
They have been tasked to provide their reports to the Board latest by 15th April 2008.
I shall see all of you when District Governor Joe Rajendran officially visits our Club on Monday 3rd March 2008 (Club Assembly & Fellowship at PP Teo Woon Hud’s residence) and officially addresses our Club on Tuesday 4th March 2008 during our regular luncheon meeting.
Warmest regards & ROTARY SHARES.
