PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

I ended last week’s message by saying that “Our mindset is based on opinions, beliefs, facts and experiences. Do not forget …………. that the mindset was fashioned by the environment ……”.

Our needs and wants are based on our opinions as dictated by several factors:

bulletGreed and avarice
bulletTo want more than the next person – jealousy, revenge, hang-ups
bulletTo satisfy desires
bulletPushed by extraneous influences

In all of the above, the one outstanding feature is that you made your choices. Remember, choices are made on mindsets.

What is mindset, one may choose to ask. Mindset is a belief system that has an entrenched influence on a group of people that subscribe and contribute to a certain set of beliefs or principles that influence the group collectively or individually to act in a certain manner in the decision making process or conduct or behaviour.

It is this same mindset or belief system that influences our choices and decisions. It is now relevant to acknowledge that the way we function, the way we conduct ourselves, and most of all our decisions and choices will be based on our mindset or belief system.

Bearing this in mind, the opinion is that our conduct and its results are based on our belief system. Yes, it is true and so we must come to conclude that it no longer is an opinion but a fact. You do something the same way all the time , you end up getting the same result and we ask “where did I go wrong?”. The mindset and belief system was wrongly programmed in the first place.

Now, having identified the areas that need attention, we shall now begin a new journey to realise a new destination. A destination that will be our comfort zone. A destination that will realise our dreams and desires. A DESTINATION THAT WAS ALWAYS MEANT AND DESTINED FOR US.

LET US REINVENT OUR CLUB INTO ONE THAT WE ALL DESIRE.

ROTARY SHARES TO MAKE OUR DREAMS REAL.

EDITORIAL
by Eric Wong
Language, in special reference to English, reflects one’s thoughts, attitudes and personality. There’s also a feature called tone that is manifested in the choices of expressions and the loudness and sharpness on how these expressions are uttered. Tone can be used to reprimand, belittle, criticize and do a lot of damage in hurting people. But at the same time, it can plead and say sorry to someone. This is generally true of all languages.

Our current parliamentarians are obviously lacking in the quality of language use. Emotions overtake them and they lose control of their language. What is most important in an open forum is debate without losing one’s head. It does not mean that a parliamentarian with the loudest guttural delivery wins the debate. It’s the substance that is the criterion. To have all these, parliamentarians must have adequate training and experience. Do our YBs have these? I’m not too sure. Maybe some statistics are required whether they have graduated from universities where students are trained, at least in recent times, to have appropriate skills in presentation or skills in speaking before an audience. If they don’t, it’s about time they acquire them. It’s a shame to see them acting like clowns before students who have high regard for their ‘wakil rakyat’.
