PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The annual SuperCamp for Interactors is right on schedule. It will be held from 30th May to 2nd June in FELDA Trolak. 120 Interactors and Rotarians will gather in this quiet resort to spend a weekend of learning and fellowship. The SuperCamp attracts a number of Interactors but it is unfortunate that we cannot accommodate too many.

The Interactors will undergo skills in leadership, team-building and endurance from early in the morning till the late afternoon. In the evening, they learn how to communicate and share their experiences. The Rotarian behind this SuperCamp is Pua Boon Yee who has been instrumental in organizing this Interact activity almost every year. He has for the first time injected technology in this camp. This has appealed to the young Interactors. I am deeply indebted to him for his fine effort.

The camp is also a time for the Rotaractors and Rotarians who sit down to talk about matters related to Rotary. It is a good time for sharing. The Rotaractors have been helpful in organizing all the activities under the supervision of Rtn Pua.

I would like to encourage as many Rotarians as possible to participate in this camp. Come for the weekend if the four-day camp is a little too long.

EDITORIAL
by Eric Wong
People must make time to exercise. Time must be put aside for it no matter how busy we are. Failure to do so, manifested most likely in excuses, leads to lots of health problems like obesity and diabetes and heart ailment. We are facing a mountain of challenge in the form of undesirable diet. Fast food is thrust upon children without teaching them to think whether it is good for their health. Adults are very selective. They go for the best food and the best is usually bad for health.

There was a report stating that diabetes is spiraling in Asia. Those affected are relatively young. The eating habits of the young should be monitored consistently otherwise these habits will continue to remain in adulthood. Diabetic disorder is definitely related to a sedentary lifestyle, expressed in simple terms – the lack of exercise. It is sad that obese people insist on their right.

For example, the plus size shops in Australia and the States. The availability of these shops tends to encourage them to be a little careless of what they consume.

The answer to all these woes is exercise. Some walking, a round of golf, swimming, gym workout are possibilities. They should be part of our routine and built into our system.
